Supported Independent Living, or SIL, is one of the most significant supports available through the NDIS. For participants who need ongoing assistance with daily tasks but want to live as independently as possible, SIL provides the structure and support to make that happen.

What Is SIL?

SIL refers to support services provided to people with disability who need assistance with everyday tasks while living in their own home or a shared living arrangement. Support workers assist with things like personal care, meal preparation, medication management, household tasks and community access.

SIL is about more than just help with tasks. It is about creating an environment where participants can develop skills, make their own choices and live with confidence and dignity.

How Does SIL Funding Work?

SIL funding comes through the Core Supports budget in a participant’s NDIS plan. The level of support, including how many hours and what type of assistance, is determined based on the participant’s individual needs and goals.

Some participants require 24-hour support while others need only a few hours of assistance each day. SIL is flexible by design because everyone’s needs are different.

What to Look for in a SIL Provider

Registration is non-negotiable. All SIL providers must be registered with the NDIS Commission, and Enable Hub is already registered — which means participants and families can have full confidence in our accountability and standards.

Beyond registration, look for a provider who invests in consistent, well-trained staff, genuinely involves participants in decision making, and maintains open communication with families and support coordinators.
